Program Overview
The certificate emphasizes criminal justice and criminology-related subjects. Demand for crime analysts is rising, particularly with police departments, courts, correctional agencies, research firms, think tanks and private companies.
Today's students are increasingly passionate about topics such as prison reform, counterterrorism, crime trends and crime prevention, and there is no better way to combat the problems faced by society than by starting with the seemingly discernible task of analyzing data and other intelligence.

Program requirements
- The Graduate Certificate in Crime Analysis requires 15 credit hours of coursework.
- Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0, with a minimum grade of B- in each course.
Required courses
Students must complete the following five courses, for a total of 15 credit hours:
- CRJU 5003: Research Methods (3 credit hours)
- CRJU 5004: Statistics for Criminal Justice (3 credit hours)
- CRJU 5015: Intelligence Writing & Briefing -OR- ENGL 5175: Writing in the Sciences (3 credit hours)
- CRJU 5325: Qualitative Methods for Criminal Justice -OR- PUAD 5007: Qualitative Research Methods (3 credit hours)
- CRJU 5331: Crime Analysis & GIS (3 credit hours)
- Similar classes may be substituted based on approval from the Master of Criminal Justice program director. All course descriptions can be found in the Graduate Academic Catalog.
