The Buechner Institute for
Governance was formed in 2010, consolidating several existing research centers
and leadership programs. The creation of
the Institute reaffirms the commitment of the School of Public Affairs, at the University
of Colorado Denver, to provide applied public policy and leadership research,
analysis and training services, in order to connect effectively the academic
community with the practitioner community.
The Institute is named in honor of Dr. John Buechner, former University
of Colorado president, state legislator, mayor, city council member of two
different communities in Colorado, School of Public Affairs faculty member and
long-time scholar of public sector leadership and local government.
