Certified Nonprofit Professional Credential

The School of Public Affairs now offers a supplementary credential to the Nonprofit Management Concentration in partnership with the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance

The Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP) credential is the only national nonprofit credential preparing students for careers in nonprofit management. Students who complete the credential will gain access to a network of nonprofit career resources and become part of a community dedicated to improving and empowering the nonprofit sector.

This PowerPoint presentation provides an overview of the CNP credential.

  • Graduate students have the option to attend an alternative approved regional nonprofit conference.
  • All students can opt to attend “Virtual AMI” in lieu of attending the Annual AMI Conference.

Service and Leadership Activity
This requirement can be satisfied by documented volunteer or service opportunities in your community, as well as leadership roles and/or participation in the MPA Student Association

Internship or Work at a Nonprofit Organization
An internship or work experience of 300 hours at a nonprofit organization is required to receive the CNP. There are scholarships available through the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance’s NextGen award program. Access to CNP Launchthe NLA’s job portal, will also be available to help students identify organizations that are seeking interns or employees.

Additionally, students may always use Handshake, SPA's jobs and professional experience portal, to seek opportunities.

Cost
Cost of the credential is in addition to fees students incur for the MPA degree or graduate certificate. These include a $25 enrollment fee that provides access to CNP Launch and your student profile on Salesforce. There is also a $35 fee at the end of your CNP that will pay for the cost of your CNP certificate, transcript, lapel pin and cords to wear at graduation.
