Admission Requirements
The College of Architecture and Planning offers a four-year pre-professional program that prepares graduates to enter accredited professional M.Arch programs across the country as well as other graduate programs in disciplines such as landscape architecture, interior architecture, planning, historic preservation and urban design. B.S.Arch graduates may also consider careers in construction and real estate as project managers, marketers, estimators, inspectors, appraisers, developers and facilities managers.
Students in the B.S.Arch program will benefit from close contact with graduate architecture students and architects and other design, construction and real estate professionals with practices in downtown Denver and the Metro Region. They will study in one of the most dynamic and rapidly growing urban environments in the country. The new program will expand the College’s ability to meet the rapidly changing demand for architects and designers in Colorado, the United States and the world.
We encourage interested students to apply as early as possible to this exciting new degree program. Anyone applying for admission to a college or university for the first time after graduating from high school (or earning a GED) is a freshman for admission purposes. Students who completed college courses while still in high school may have credits considered in transfer, but they still apply as freshman students.
Freshman Admission
Freshman admission consideration for both in-state and out-of-state students is based primarily upon:
- Quality and number of high school courses (units) attempted (a rigorous academic program of study is preferred)
- The admission index, which is a numeric score calculated by the Colorado Department of Higher Education based on GPA or rank in class and ACT or SAT test scores
- Optional personal essay and letters of recommendation. Though not required, a personal statement or essay and/or letters of recommendation may be considered in the admissions review process
General Admission
You are a strong candidate for general admission if:
- Your index is 103 or higher
- You have completed all HEAR requirements AND have no more than two MAPS unit deficiencies
Transfer Students
Transfer applicants to the College of Architecture and Planning with a 2.75 cumulative GPA will receive priority admission consideration. Applicants with at least a 2.3 cumulative GPA will be fully considered. Because of course sequencing and specialized course requirements in the field of architecture, students are advised to transfer to CU Denver as early as possible. Learn more about

Housing Requirement
Unless living at home with parents, freshmen under age 20 must live at Campus Village, which is an apartment style housing complex adjacent to campus. For additional information about floor plans, meal plans, leases and other exemption criteria, see the
