Film & Television at CU Denver uniquely recognizes the vast opportunities in both the film and television industries.

CU Denver knows that filmmaking is best learned through making films. Undergraduates take film history and film theory courses, but the bulk of their coursework involves creative writing and productions, giving students hands-on experience in filmmaker and production. Students graduate with a portfolio and reels of multiple short-films, documentries and episodic productions. Student have the responsibility of scouting locations, securing permits, acting, designing scenes, choosing costumes, and managing sets, schedules, budget and production.

The cohort model of the program builds strong relationships and allows students to work as a team that emulates real-world film & television production. Students enjoy opportunities to collaborate with one another, as well as with their fellow students across such disciplines as music and visual arts.

Most courses are small, and faculty bring their experience as working industry professionals to the classroom. The hands-on nature of the curriculum means students are working with state-of-art and industry standard equipment.

CU Denver Film & Television emphasizes professional mentorship, which provides students with actual working experiences that easily transfer to industry credits beyond their degree. Students have opportunity to intern in L.A./Hollywood with major motion picture and productions houses.

Student Testimonials

Alex Kimose ’22 thrives on the chances CAM gives him to grow professionally. Directing the final episode of FITV’s Webseries Booth by the Window was just one of many this year. Alex credits his mentors with his ability to write a script, use the production designer’s perspective, make sure active elements in each shot have purpose, take chances, deal with uncertainty, understand the industry’s business side, and break in.

Alex Kimose

(2022)
Though one of my goals was to make people laugh, I also wanted to capture and share that sense of wonder that “Slow TV” gave to me. I wanted to remind and re-glorify the outlook that we have seemed to have forgotten nowadays: that the only moment worth living for is the present.
