Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Television

Program Overview

Film & Television at CU Denver is a hands-on opportunity to write the script, operate the camera, edit the film, and tell the story. Under the guidance of industry professionals, students work on a variety of projects, including short films, web series’, documentaries, digital effects, and TV studio production.

Film & Television at CU Denver uniquely recognizes the vast opportunities in both the film and television industries.

CU Denver knows that filmmaking is best learned through making films. Undergraduates take film history and film theory courses, but the bulk of their coursework involves creative writing and productions, giving students hands-on experience in filmmaker and production. Students graduate with a portfolio and reels of multiple short-films, documentries and episodic productions. Student have the responsibility of scouting locations, securing permits, acting, designing scenes, choosing costumes, and managing sets, schedules, budget and production.

The cohort model of the program builds strong relationships and allows students to work as a team that emulates real-world film & television production. Students enjoy opportunities to collaborate with one another, as well as with their fellow students across such disciplines as music and visual arts.

Most courses are small, and faculty bring their experience as working industry professionals to the classroom. The hands-on nature of the curriculum means students are working with state-of-art and industry standard equipment.

CU Denver Film & Television emphasizes professional mentorship, which provides students with actual working experiences that easily transfer to industry credits beyond their degree. Students have opportunity to intern in L.A./Hollywood with major motion picture and productions houses.
