Pre-Business Students

If you were admitted as pre-business and have questions about what this means, please read the following.

What is pre-business?

Students who apply to the Business School that do not meet the entrance requirements for that college are automatically considered for admission into the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS).  If they meet the requirements for CLAS, students are admitted as pre-business.

All students who are pre-business are advised in the Academic Success and Advising Center until admitted to the Business School.

I was admitted as PRBU, now what?

You should set up an appointment to meet with your advisor in the Academic Success and Advising Center.  Your advisor will talk to you about what you will need to do in order to be admitted to the Business School.  He or she will discuss your goals with you and help you determine when you will be able to apply to the Business School and whether or not any other majors may be appropriate.

How do I get admitted to the Business School?

Students who want to transfer to the Business School from another college or school of CU Denver must formally apply to the Business School. Transfer application deadlines are August 1 for fall semester, December 1 for spring semester, and May 1 for the summer session.

Students who have completed at least 24 applicable semester hours will be evaluated on their college work; students with fewer than 24 transferable hours will be evaluated on the basis of both high school and college work.  Students will be considered for admission on either their overall GPA in applicable coursework from CU and all previous institutions or on their last 24 hours. Applicants with less than a 2.0 GPA in business courses (from CU or other institutions) and overall CU GPA of less than 2.0 will be denied admission even though they meet the minimum requirements for consideration.  Students will receive priority consideration for admission to the Business School if they have an overall GPA of 3.0, or an overall GPA of 3.0 in their last 24 hours.

To apply for an intra-university transfer, students must submit an Intra-University Transfer form and the CU Denver transcripts to the business program coordinator. Transfer forms are available at the Office of Admissions or the Business School office; transcript request forms are available at the Records Office. The transcript must include the student’s most recent semester at the university. Students with previous coursework from other institutions are also required to submit a copy of their transfer credit evaluations (advanced standings).
