Nuri Heckler

Biography


Nuri received a B.A. from the City College of New York, and attained a J.D. from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law.  After joining the Maryland Bar, he worked for the Public Defenders Service in Washington, D.C. Starting in 2010, Nuri ran a profitable business writing marketing materials, legal briefs, and nonprofit organizational documents while staying home to care for his two young children. Nuri has served in leadership roles in multiple nonprofit organizations, including as an Executive Director and a Board President. He is a proud AmeriCorps VISTA alumnus who worked as a community organizer in Washington, D.C. using Asset Based Community Development. He was a finance director for a campaign for U.S. Congress, and has served on multiple fundraising teams. Nuri has been a presenter and panelist for seminars in neighborhood development, resource development, and street law.

 

RESEARCH


His research interests center around how nonprofit management structures and informal organizations can increase organizational stability and improve client outcomes using a variety of tools including gender, sex, race, class, and difference equity.
