Eugenia Rawls Courtyard Theatre, King Center

Our Auraria Campus Facilities

  • King Academic and Performing Arts Center. The King Center is a state-of-the-art facility that opened in fall 2000 on the Auraria campus. The King Center includes a 520-seat concert hall, the 350-seat Eugenia Rawls Courtyard Theatre, a 200-seat recital hall, with studios for electronic and recording music, design and construction, music and dance, and a 200-seat theatre production studio. The center is also home to fully equipped scene, costume, and paint shops, lighting and sound studios, and dressing rooms, and is one of few facilities of its kind in the country that is fully accessible for mobility impaired students.
  • Eugenie Rawls Courtyard Theatre (entrance pictured left). Named for famous Broadway actress Eugenia Rawls, (wife of Donald Seawell who is past president of the Denver Performing Arts Center). The opening gala of the facility included a UCD student performance of Noel Coward’s Private Lives, the play in which Rawls made her Broadway premiere. The heart of the performing arts building, the theatre can be converted into a proscenium, theatre-in-the-round and thrust. Catwalks are wide enough to accommodate wheelshairs will allow disabled students to work on stage lighting and design high above the stage, both in the theatre and in other rehearsal areas.
  • UC Denver Studio Theatre.  The Studio Theatre is equipped with moveable seating banks, light grid, sound equipment, and rehearsal furniture.  This studio is also wheelchair accessible.
  • Music/Dance Studio. The Music and Dance Studio features sprung wooden floors, barre, and mirrors.
  • Costume and Scene Shop.  The shop offers all the tools for building costumes and scenery for the Department's Performing Arts productions. The shop also serves as lab spaces for students in the theatre design and technology emphasis, and is staffed by costume and scenery professionals.
  • Design Studio. The studio is equipped with full drafting tables, computer drafting equipment and excellent lighting for classroom and lab work.
