The CU Denver MIX is CU Denver's premier a cappella ensemble. This group of elite singers competes and performs actively throughout the year, using only their voices to recreate pop, rock, jazz and world music. MIX has been Runner-up in the Mile High Vocal Jam, and in 2011, they traveled to Berkeley, California for the International Collegiate Championship of A cappella where they won a Runner-Up award, and a trip to Los Angeles to compete in the Semi-Finals. 9th Street Singers
The 9th Street Singers is CU Denver's Signature a cappella ensemble. Sixteen voices strong, this group performs difficult, 8 part music in all genres. A first time entry in the Mile High Vocal Jam in 2011 earned them a coveted 3rd place finish. In MIle Hi Vocal Jam's, 2013 competition, 9th Street Singers finished as the runner-up behind MIX who took first place in the competition! This group has accompanied the Denver Silent Film Festival, faculty concerts and the CU Denver Commencement.
The Music Theater Ensemble
The Music Theater Ensemble introduces vocalists to the study and
performance of various contemporary musical theater productions.
Singers will learn performance skills including natural stage movement
and character development as well as receive coaching and direction on
all assigned roles.
The Singer Songwriter Ensemble
The Singer Songwriter Ensemble focuses on student compositions of original songs with lyrics and
instrumental accompaniment including creation of lead sheets for band
performances. Individual and group songwriting is explored. Student singers and songwriters
participate in community-building activities including community
engagement and a songwriting retreat.
