Soocher is Associate Professor of Music & Entertainment Industry
Studies at the University of Colorado’s Denver Campus. He is also an
entertainment attorney*, the long-time Editor-in-Chief of Entertainment Law & Finance
and author of the investigative book They Fought the Law: Rock Music Goes to Court.
Soocher has presented speeches on entertainment law and related industry
issues to numerous bar associations, at educational institutions and at
entertainment industry conferences, including: the American Bar
Association, N.Y. State Bar Association, Nashville Bar Association,
Texas Bar Association, Los Angeles County Bar Association, Colorado Bar
Association, D.C. Bar Association, Oregon Bar, Minnesota Bar, Virginia

Soocher received ASCAP's Deems Taylor Award for excellence in music journalism, including for music law articles in Rolling Stone and The National Law Journal. For many years, he covered the federal appeals courts in a weekly section for The National Law Journal. Early in his career, he worked as an associate editor for the rock music magazine Circus.

holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in English from the University of Florida
and a J.D. from New York Law School. He is also a drummer.
