December 16, 2016
Folks, Please mark these dates and times on your calendars:
January 10, 2017 9:30am-11:00am
Faculty and Staff Recognition Event—honoring the dedication and service of CAM’s faculty and staff
January 12, 2017 9:30am-11:00am
CAM Faculty and Staff Meeting
Please save both of these dates and plan on attending.
The Tuesday, January 10th event will be held at 9:30 am in the Lawrence Street Center Terrace Room (2nd Floor), and CAM faculty and staff will be awarded and honored for outstanding service. This is an important event—as it reflects a climate of respect and recognition for dedication to the mission and values of CAM. This will be the inaugural event of a new annual CAM Employee Recognition Program to provide well-deserved acknowledgement and affirmation of lives that have been dedicated to the College of Arts & Media. Full and part-time faculty and staff who have achieved length of service milestones as CAM employees will receive awards honoring their work and dedication according to the attached program. The event will be catered, and brunch will be provided.
**Please send Shannon Squires (email@example.com) confirmation that you will be attending the January 10 event. **
All attendees must RSVP by noon on Thursday, January 5, 2017.
The Thursday, January 12th meeting will also be held at 9:30 am in the Tivoli Community Theatre. It will be primarily dedicated to hearing from voices outside of the College of Arts & Media who represent the creative industries. This will allow us all to hold up a mirror and check-in on how our students are perceived, how our alumni contribute to the creative economy and how our faculty are connected in ways that benefit all of CAM and CU Denver. A panel of leading Denver-area professionals will provide their views of the creative industries and CAM (and it’s role), thus providing us with essential information that will inform our planning for our research / creative activity, teaching, student recruitment, retention and outreach.
Important news about CAM Goals:
At the Opening Faculty & Staff Meeting in August 2016, I shared three goals for CAM that are linked to the overarching mission of CU Denver. Those three goals are: Recruit, Retain and Reach (as in outreach and community engagement) and I offer the following updates:
In State (admitted) as of 12/12/16:
Out of State (admitted) as of 12/12/16:
A three-person team has been formed to help with our goals—we are calling it the “Career Team.” The Career Team adds value and compliments the three full-time academic advisors in the CAM Office.
The funding for these three positions comes from Student Program Fees, CAM salary savings, the City of Denver’s Arts & Venues and Colorado Creative Industries (the arts council of Colorado). While the recruitment and outreach parts of the Career Team may seem obvious, retention seems to be enhanced when students and their families have better knowledge of their career paths. These four links present research to back the claim of a correlation between career paths and retention:
Thus, the CAM Career Team of a researcher, industry liaison and academic career counselor will provide services that we will track quantitatively and qualitatively to assess ROI on this infinitive.
