Ben Wysocki is the drummer for The Fray
. The Fray was formed in Denver by CU Denver alum Issac Slade
and Joe King. Ben has been the drummer of The Fray since nearly the beginning. From 2002-2004, The Fray began to make a name for themselves in the Denver music scene. They were voted "Best New Band" in Denver in 2004 by Westword Magazine. In 2005 they exploded on the national scene with the release of the album How to Save a Life
. Two songs on the album, Over my Head (Cable Car)
and How to Save a Life
were Billboard Top 10 hits with How to Save a Life tying for the seventh longest charting single of all-time on Billboard. Since then the band has had numerous other hit songs
(including "You Found Me" and "Never Say Never") and albums. Ben and Michele Wysocki are big supporters of the Music Indursty Program at the LYNX Arts Camp and have generously donated to our scholarship fund each year of the camp's existence. We're so grateful for their support and super excited to host Ben as a guest artist at the Music Industry Program during the 2016 LYNX Camp this summer! Bridget Law has been part of the "transcendental folk" band Elephant Revival since it was formed in 2006. They have released four albums and toured around the world. Bridget plays the fiddle, the octave fiddle, and helps with the vocals. Here is a video of Elephant Revival performing "Rogue River" during their 2014 show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. After opening for Trampled by Turtles at Red Rocks last August, they are headlining there own Red Rocks show this May! Bridget was a fantastic Guest Artist at the 2015 LYNX Camp and we're very exciting that she will be returning this summer. She will speak to students about her experiences touring with Elephant Revival, participate in workshops, and play for the students. Bridget is an alum of the CU Denver College of Arts & Media, so it makes it even more special that she will be here! Make sure to ask Bridget what it's like to get paid to perform on an airplane!
Adam has been making and producing powerful funk, jazz, hip hop, and electronic music for over twenty years. He is currently the drummer for the bands Lettuce and Break Science. Adam has also played and recorded with John Scofield, DJ Quik, Pretty Lights, and the Average White Band. Adam is also a producer and has produced albums for 50 Cent, Redman, Talib Kweli, Xzibit, and Matisyahu. In 2010, Adam was nomitated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B album for writing and producing part of Ledisi's album Turn Me Loose.
Garrett is a professional bass guitarist originally from Connecticutt. In the late 1990's, he attended the New England Conservatory in Boston where he learned from many jazz greats. Garrett moved to Colorado shortly after graduating and joined the funk/jazz group, The Motet in 2002. Over the past 15 years, The Motet has released numerous acclaimed albums and toured around the world. Some of their tour highlights include playing Bonnaroo in front of 10,000 people and performing with Christian McBride. Garrett also plays with his own band, The Garrett Sayers Trio.
Mario Rodriguez, AKA DJ Chonz, is a legendary hip hop DJ in Denver. He's shared the stage with some of the biggest names in the industry including Dr. Dre, Eminem, Slick Rick, The Roots, Snoop Dogg, and De La Soul. He's hosted a radio show on 107.5 KQKS in Denver since 2001. His show routinely receives No. 1 rankings and he's been recognized with awards such as Best Hip-Hop DJ, Best Denver Radio, and Best Afternoon Show. DJ Chonz has been a guest artist every year of the Music Industry Program and has been very involved with our camps since their creation. He lectures, teaches and performs for camp students and fundraises for the DJ Chonz Scholarships to help students pay for the camp. We're so thankful to have DJ Chonz's support for the LYNX Arts Camp!
Sue Baker is the Program Director of the Les Paul Foundation. Sue conducts Les Paul research and serves as a resource for sharing information about Les Paul, the "the Wizard of Waukesha". As a close friend with Les Paul, Sue heard many stories directly from the master. Recent projects include co-producing Les Paul's Big Sound Experience (traveling exhibit), coordinating educator workshops and helping with Les Paul teacher lesson plans. She will be a visit the camp on Monday, June 13th. She will present about the Les Paul Foundation and show a documentary about Les Paul to the LYNX Camp students.
Chris Daniels has been a huge presence in the Colorado music scene since the 1970's. Chris is in the Colorado Music Hall of Fame and fronts the award winning blues/funk band, Chris Daniels and the Kings. The band has produced 13 albums and performed all over the world. Chris is the faculty Area Head of the Music Business Program at CU Denver and his connections in the industry stretch throughout the US and beyond. Chris will visit the camp during the first week of the Music Industry Program.
AMZY is a Denver band of the verge of major success in the music industry. The band was created in 2013 and exploded on the Denver scene in 2014 by winning KTCL's Demo Derby Finale in June and the Hometown for the Holidays competition in December. AMZY released their first EP, We Don't Walk, We Dance, in early 2015 and they are currently working on a full length album. They've shared the stage with Bastille, The Wombats, Cold War Kids, Atlus Genius, The Airborne Toxic Event, Robert Delong, and The Misterwives. AMZY will perform and talk with the camp students on Thursday, June 16th!
Steel Pan Collective Partnership
We are also excited to once again have a partnership with the Pan People Music Festival
that will take place on the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver on Saturday, June 11th. This concert focused on Steel Drums is produced by The Steel Pan Collective
. Like last summer, the LYNX Camp music industry students will receive a presentation from some of the steel pan musicians. They will also be able to attend concerts by Steel Pan bands
from around the region, including 2016 headliner Tracy Thornton
Evan Anderman is a professional social-landscape photographer
based in Denver. Evan is a geologist who became fascinated with documenting the beauty of land and the way that humans use and change land. After working for two decades as a geologist, he became a full-time photographer artist in 2005. He's had 50 photography exhibits at places such as the Denver Art Museum, Denver International Airport, and the Colorado State Capital. He has written six book on photography and was awarded the Duggal Image Maker Award by the Photo District New Photoplus Expo in New York City. Evan serves on the Board of CENTER in Santa Fe, NM
and the Denver Art Museum Photography Department
Advisory Committee. Evan will present to the LYNX Camp students on July 13th!
Amara (Poolswasdi) Hulslander
Amara is an UX and interactive designer in Denver, CO. Her design expertise includes user experience design, user interface design, digital product design, graphic/visual communications, branding, and integrated marketing communications. She has worked with communications agencies, tech startups, small and large businesses, and other fellow entrepreneurs. Most recently Amara has worked at Amazon and Sphero. At Sphero she helped create the droids for Star Wars: The Force Awakensincluding the BB-8 app-enabled droid! We're really excited to that Amara will present to the LYNX Camp students on July 20th!
Jeff is an artist, designer and digital animator
currently working at Disney. While originally from Trinidad, Colorado, he now lives in Hollywood. This article
details Jeff's fascinating journey. Jeff attended CU Denver's Digitial Animation Program from 2010-2012. After some amazing internships at Pixar, Action Sports Design, and Laike, Jeff was hired by Disney in 2013. The first film that he worked on at Disney was the Oscar winning movie Frozen
. Jeff was in charge of lighting and compositing for the film. Recently he has worked on Big Hero 6

Jason is a professional photographer based in Denver, CO and Laramie, WY. Two of his specialties are concert photography and anime photography. You'll ofter find him taking pictures at many of Denver's best concert venues such as Red Rocks, the Ogden, and the Fillmore. He is also a regular at many of the biggest Comic Cons in the country. He says that portraits are his favorite form of photography because of the stories that are told through the pictures. www.jasonpendleton.com
Travis is an Assistant Professor of Visual Arts at the CU Denver College of Arts & Media. He holds a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Medical and Biological Illustration from the University of Michigan. Travis's groundbreaking medical illustration work has been shown on the Oprah Winfrey Show, Dateline NBC and Discovery Health as well as international magazines, e-zines and publications. His award winning illustrations and animations have served such clientele as: Abbott Laboratories, Stryker Medical, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Medical Modeling LLC, The World Craniofacial Foundation, The New York Times, and National Geographic. Timothy is currently the Director of User Experience Design at Charter Communications. Tim graduated from the CU Denver 3D Digital Animation BFA Program in 2005. He has had a wide variety of experiences in the Arts. After graduating he worked in game design at Idol Minds and LucasArts. At Lucas Arts he was the Sr. Effects Artist for the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
video game released in 2008. From 2008-2012, Tim created games for the iPhone at MuskyFun, Villain, and Airy Labs. Since 2012, he has worked for Time Warner Cable and Charter Communications on User Experience Design. Tim will present at the camp on July 21st!
Richard is also an alum of our 3D Digital Animation BFA Program. He has worked at Pixar Animation Studios since graduating from CU Denver. He started as a Technical Director Resident and was recently promoted to a full-time Rendering Technical Director. One of Richard's most recent projects at Pixar was working in the Rendering Department for the film Finding Dory, as a Rendering and Optimization Artist. Prior to working at Pixar, Richard worked at Phizzle as a Junior Technical Director. At Phizzle, he developed proprietary software for multimedia systems used on jumbotrons and large-scale touchscreens worldwide. We're excited to have Richard vising the camp on July 14th!
Bryce is an award winning advertising photographer based in Denver, CO. He is an energetic people shooter and is experienced producing large scale photo shoots on location or in the studio. His clients include Visit Denver, 5280 Magazine, Newsweek, SportsIllustrated, Glamour, Bycycling Magazine, Denver Children's Hospital, Miller/Coors, Johnson & Johnson, The American Heart Association, and The Special Olympics. Hans is an Associate Professor of Film and Television at CU Denver. Prior to moving to Denver, he earned an M.F.A from the American Film Institute in Los Angeles and worked as a film professor for five years at the University of Idaho. Hans specializes in filmmaking related to science, the environment, wildlife, action sports, adventure, and travel. He has created films for National Geographic, NBC, ESPN, Discovery Channel, PBS, the Weather Channel, and Warren Miller. He runs his own production company called Evolution Media. Hans recently produced a 13 episode series called Xpedition China: Search for Shangri La that aired on the Discovery Velocity network and National Geographic International.
While Javier Colon had already been an accomplished musician for many years, he became a household name when he won season one of NBC's The Voice in 2011. He received $100,000 and a recording contract with Universal Republic Records for winning The Voice. In 2011, he produced an album called "Come Through For You" that featured songs with Natasha Bedingfield and Adam Levine. He has a new album with Concord Music Group that is due to be released in the summer of 2015. Javier is scheduled to be at our camp on Wednesday, June 17th. He will speak to the students, provide workshops, and perform a mini-concert with LYNX faculty members. It should be an incredible experience!
John Morrissey is a film producer, screenplay writer, and actor based in Los Angeles. John began his career as an actor. He's performed on Broadway and was an 80's "soap" star, playing a villain on both General Hospital and Guiding Light. More recently he's produced many films including American History X, Booty Call, 11:14, The Prodigy, and Havoc. He's worked at Rastar Productions, MDP Worldwide, Media 8 Entertainment, and his own Turman-Morrissey Company. The list of actors that John's worked with is a who's who of Hollywood: Anne Hathaway, Jaime Foxx, Edward Norton, Hilary Swank, Whoopi Goldberg, Billy Bob Thornton, and many more stars. We're very fortunate to have John as a guest artist this year. He will work with our Movie Production students on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 23rd and will give a presentation to the whole camp that that evening.
Mitch Dickman is a Denver area filmmaker and CUDenver alum! He was recently named one of Variety.com's "10 Documakers to Watch" after his newest film, Rolling Papers, was purchased by Alchemy Production Studio at the 2015 South By Southwest festival. Some of the previous films that he directed and/or produced include Hanna Ranch, Being Evel, and A Test of Wills. We're so grateful to Mitch for jumping in as a camp guest artist after Aaron Kopp was called away for an HBO shoot. On June 24th, Mitch will help the camp Movie Production students with their films and present about his film career to the all the LYNX Camp students in the evening. It should be a wonderful experience for the students!
DJ Cavem is a Denver area recording artist and and music educator. He uses hip hop to help kids make healthier food and lifestyle choices. He was a 2014 Music Educator Grammy nominee and has performed with Wyclef Jean, The Wailers, Mos Def, Public Enemy, De La Soul, and the Wu Tang Clan. Check out this Oprah Magazine article about DJ Cavem and his TEDx Talk here. We're thrilled to have him as a guest artist for the LYNX Program on Monday, June 22nd. He will speak and perform for our Music Industry Program students. During our recreation time, he will lead a yoga session and teach the students how to make healthy smoothies!
Steven Fischer is a two time Emmy nominated live action and animation filmmaker based out of Chicago. Steven attended the London Cartoon Centre and one of his first big film projects was the creation of the Steve & Bluey cartoons. Some of his films include Freedom Dance and Old School New School. He's produced commissioned works for Maryland Public Television, the Oprah Winfrey Network, TV Asia, Americorps, Screen Arts Animation, and the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts. We're excited to have Steven at our camp on Monday, June 22nd. He will work with our animation students in the afternoon and present to the whole camp later that evening about finding and channelling creativity.
Sarah Atereth will return to the camp again in 2015! Sarah is originally from Denver and she studied music at Columbia University, Juilliard School, and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre Masters. As a singer who helps write all of her own songs, Sarah has found huge success in the U.K. where her singles, “Without You,” and "Fade Away" were #1 hits. Sarah was named as one of The Future Faces of 2012 in MusicWeek. Sarah has worked with Marti Frederiksen, Bryan Adams, and Rick Chertoff. She is known for her unique lyrics and energetic stage presence. Sarah co-founded her own record label called Beguile Records. She will visit the camp and speak to the music industry program students on Thursday, June 18th.
Guest artist Tia Fuller grew up in Denver and earned a Master’s degree in Jazz Pedagogy and Performance from CU Boulder. She was a member of the all-female band touring with R&B star, Beyoncé, as part of the I AM..Sasha Fierce and Beyoncé Experience World Tour. She is a featured soloist on the Beyoncé Experience DVD and has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, the Today Show, Good Morning America, the BET Awards, and the American Music Awards. Tia has released three CDs on Mack Avenue Records. Tia believes a passion for teaching and inspiring students is in her genes because her parents were educators/administrators in the Denver Public School District. www.tiafuller.com
