MASTER'S PROGRAMS

College of Architecture + Planning

WHAT DO WE LOOK FOR?

The College of Architecture and Planning aims to admit students who are likely to succeed in completing the requirements for the degree and whose interests are a good fit with its educational capacities. All of the required information helps us to evaluate your potential for graduate study and to pair your interests with our strengths. No one component (such as a GRE score, if required) ensures admission nor precludes it; we make a judgment based on the entire application.

However, due to the healthy level of competition to gain admission into the only graduate school of architecture and planning in Colorado, there are more qualified applicants than there are openings, and only students with the most impressive qualifications are selected.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

HERE ARE THE GENERAL ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS THE REVIEW COMMITTEE WILL ADDRESS:

  • At least a 3.0 undergraduate grade point average - although you may be admitted on probation in special instances with a grade point average below 3.0 but over 2.5.
  • A portfolio of creative work – required for Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Urban Design
  • A sample of writing or a work project – required for Urban and Regional Planning
  • Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores are encouraged for the Urban and Regional Planning program
    • However, if you are applying to the Urban and Regional Planning program and your GPA is below 3.0, you must submit GRE scores
  • Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores are highly advised if your GPA is below 3.0 and you are applying for the Architecture, Landscape Architecture or Urban Design programs
  • You must hold at least a bachelor's degree for admission to all professional master's programs. For admission to the Master of Urban Design program, a prior professional degree - normally the master's - is required in addition.
