The university's Denver Campus and the Anschutz Medical Campus offer single stream recycling. This allows for all recyclable materials to be collected in one container and then they are separated for continued use or reuse at Waste Managements’ Recycle America Facility. The university does not pay a fee for the materials collected by Recycle America so every recyclable item kept from the waste stream and the dump actually saves the university money.
Do your part to make recycling work at CU Denver and CU Anschutz! You can review and print the list of Acceptable Recycled Item (PDF) as well as track the University's Recycled Material tonnage per month.

NEW RECYCLING OPPORTUNITIES ON THE ANSCHUTZ MEDICAL CAMPUS
The Chancellor’s Task Force on Sustainability is pleased to announce some new opportunities for recycling that compliment university commitments to waste diversion. You may have seen the new outdoor recycling bins around the educational and research quads of campus. In all, 30 new permanent recycling receptacles have been placed around the Anschutz Medical Campus. This was made possible with a $38,000 grant from Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment to assist the university in producing more recycled materials and keeping more materials out of the landfill. The added benefit to this is a monetary one – recycling is free to the university while land-filling waste comes with a cost premium.
The second recycling opportunity involves that mobile phone you just replaced. Don’t hold onto it, and definitely, DON”T THROW IT AWAY. We have a new mobile phone recycling kiosk on the 1st floor common area by the Bookstore Brew. You can recycle your personal mobile phone devices here, as well as chargers, phone holsters and manuals – it can all go into one bin and it is responsibly dismantled and the parts reused for other manufacturing. You check out more on the program at the Wireless Alliance.
Please take advantage of these new opportunities and as ever, please let us know ideas you have on recycling.
FEBRUARY IS CU Denver and CU Anschutz RECYCLING MONTH!

Paper Shredding
CONFIDENTIAL SHREDDING
Facilities Management contracts Shred-it for on-site confidential document shredding at the university. Only Shred-it employees have keys to open the secure containers which are located in central locations (pdf). The containers are emptied and the contents shredded immediately on-site on a monthly basis. The shredded material is then taken to a facility to be recycled. Certificates of destruction are kept on file which include a running total of the number of trees we, as a Campus, have saved as a result of the shredding program.
The shredding bins are for confidential documents only. For other items please see Recycling. If you have a large amount of confidential documents to be shredded, please contact Melissa Caron at 303-724-1028 or Melissa.Caron@ucdenver.edu or the Customer Service Center at 303-724-1777.
