The Mini 3mm Laparoscopic Port

Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) for neonates and small children faces challenges with current 3mm surgical ports, such as dislodgment and maintaining insufflation. At Children's Hospital Colorado, we aim to introduce a low-profile, disposable 3mm surgical port with a unique balloon retention mechanism to address these issues. Our 18-month project will develop a functional prototype, with plans to either license the technology or seek additional funding. The SPARK grant will support prototype validation, material identification for mass production, and finalizing engineering design requirements.
