Why Mental Health First Aid Training?


Mental Health First Aid teaches participants how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. This 8-hour training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to appropriate care.

What does it cover?

Ø    Common signs and symptoms of mental illness

Ø    Common signs and symptoms of substance use

Ø    How to interact with a person in crisis

Ø    How to connect the person with help

Courses are held on the 2nd Tuesday and 4th Friday of every month at CU Anschutz. Below are the 2020 course dates. Registration is open for three months at a time. To sign up, click the 'register here' link next to the month you'd like to take the course in.

Please note: Space is limited in these classes therefore participants should make every effort to be in attendance. If you can no longer attend a course you've signed up for, please provide at least 2 days’ notice so we can prepare accordingly and also open up the space for others. The minimum number of participants required to hold a class is 10 and the max is 30. Classes with less than 10 registrants will be cancelled. Thank you.​
