Services and Training

  • Services:
    • Animal IDs including tattooing (pups and adults) and ear tagging or punching
    • Injections – IP, IM, IV, SQ, IC, IO, etc.
    • Oral gavaging
    • Blood collection
    • Anesthesia
    • Aseptic/sterile techniques
    • Surgery
    • Necropsy and tissue collection
    • Many more upon request – if we don’t know a technique, we’ll learn it and then teach it or perform it.
  • Training:
    • All of the above manipulations and on any rentable equipment
    • Fees are applied if we train on your animals, but not if we use our training animals.
    • Free monthly training se​ssions include handling and restraint, injection and blood collection techniques, anesthesia, and euthanasia.
      • Contact the veterinary staff to sign up for an upcoming session
    • Free practice sessions for perfecting techniques
  • Surgical Assistance:
    • The Center for Comparative Medicine has two surgical suites and can accommodate up to six large animal surgeries at one time. Our skilled veterinary technician staff has experience with induction, anesthetic maintenance, recovery, and post-operative care of a wide variety of species including; dogs, cats, rabbits, pigs, sheep, rats, mice, guinea pigs, and chinchillas. Our knowledgeable staff can also train people to perform a variety of sterile surgical techniques and procedures.
  • Contact any OLAR Vet Tech for training, services, or supplies. Email is the best contact method.
    • Advance notice – One week notice is required. If a shorter time frame is given, we will try to accommodate, but the appointment cannot be guaranteed.
    • Fees for services – Contact OLAR for current fees. Fees for time are billed in 15-minute increments. Please include an active speed type and protocol number in any email requesting training, services, or supplies.

 


Equipment Rental

  • Equipment available to rent
    • Scales and weigh boats
    • Bead sterilizers
    • Anesthesia machines (if you’ve been trained)
    • Tattoo machine (if you’ve been trained)
    • Contact the veterinary staff for availability of equipment not listed
  • Clean equipment with Clidox before returning and please make sure all items that were present upon renting it are there when the item is returned. Please let a technician know if the equipment is in need of repair.
  • There is no fee for equipment rental; however a cleaning fee of up to $75 will be applied if equipment is not cleaned prior to being returned.
  • ABSL Anesthesia Machine- There is 1 Anesthesia machine dedicated to the ABSL. To reserve, please contact Holly Goold at Holly.Goold@UCDenver.edu. Below is a calendar for the ABSL machine. **Please note that you cannot reserve this machine under the regular EMS reservation system, nor can you bring a non ABSL machine into the ABSL.
