TSPOT®.TB Testing

Occupational Health

For those needing a ONE-STOP Tuberculosis (TB) testing service, the TSPOT®.TB blood test replaces our former service, QuantiFERON®-TB Gold test.  The TSPOT®.TB costs $75.00 and results are available within one week.  The TSPOT®.TB is an IGRA test which is ideal for those previously vaccinated with Bacillus Calmette Guerin (BCG)  – a vaccine given (usually in childhood) in foreign countries with a high incidence of Tuberculosis.  The TSPOT®.TB is also ideal for

·         Anyone who has previously had an adverse reaction to the Tuberculin Purified Protein Derivative (PPD) contained in the traditional Mantoux / PPD skin test

·         Anyone who is immunocompromised due to underlying medical conditions (i.e SLE – Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, etc) or taking certain immunosuppressant medications such as high-dose steroids, chemotherapy, organ transplants, etc.

·         Anyone looking for the convenience of a one-stop TB test

Most program requirements accept the TSPOT®.TB blood test in place of the traditional PPD Skin Test. Check with your specific program / facility for confirmation.

Individuals NOT eligible to receive the TSPOT®.TB blood test are those who have previously tested positive to a previous IGRA test or Mantoux / PPD Skin test AND/OR received treatment with a medication regimen.  For those who have been previously treated for LTBI (Latent TB), a recent chest X-ray, and a negative TB Risk Assessment Questionnaire are sufficient for annual screening requirements (check with your specific program / facility for specific requirements).

The Occupational Health clinic offers TB screening only.  If a TSPOT®.TB blood test returns positive, follow-up screening and/or evaluation will be referred out to the Infectious Disease Group Practice or Denver Metro TB Clinic.  For additional questions related to TB testing and referrals for TB clearance for previous positive TB-test outcomes, contact the Occupational Health clinic.
