Thank you for your interest in becoming a preceptor for our graduate programs at the University of Colorado - College of Nursing (CON). The preceptor role provides an exciting opportunity to share your knowledge and educational experiences. You will not only be rewarded with the fulfillment of making a diff​erence for the profession and helping the next generation of clinicians, but also the benefits of being a preceptor​. The College of Nursing offers fantastic benefits, such as access to the Anschutz Medical Campus Health Sciences Library (including UpToDate Anywhere & PubMed), and continuing education credits to name a few. The work performed by preceptors in supervising and training graduate nursing students is valued by University of Colorado-College of Nursing and an integral piece of their education.

We offer opportunities for professional and personal growth such as; improve your clinical, communication and teaching skills, stay current and up to date as a health care professional and researcher, improve your evaluating skills, serve as a role model for your expertise and professionalism, and experience the personal satisfaction of giving back to the health care community. You will also receive hours of verification at the end of each semester, for ANCC Recertification​, which you can forward to your employer to be considered for promotion or advancement in your workplace.

Preceptors Needed in the Following Specialties

Graduate Preceptor Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in the specialty area
  • National certification in specialty area
  • Meets state licensing requirements for advanced practice and prescriptive authority

Psychiatric Mental Health NP Preceptor Qualifications

  • All Advanced Practice Nurses must be nationally certified in psychiatric mental health and meet state licensing requirements
  • May be a Psych CNS with or without prescriptive authority
  • May be licensed as psychologist, psychiatric social worker, addictions counselor, psychiatrist, or other behavioral health professional
