Getting Started

The University of Colorado College of Nursing has been awarded American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to advance the widespread adoption and meaningful use of health information technology (HIT) by educating professionals in this rapidly growing field. These short-term programs provide distance education to candidates that are interested in pursuing a career in HIT.

Scholarship applications are now open

We are now accepting applications to enroll in the Spring 2013 semester. The application deadline is October 15, 2012. For more information about how to apply, degree requirements and eligibility, please review read the requirements tab.

    Program Options

    We have two educational programs to choose from:

    Graduate Certificate Program
    • online program that must be completed in one year
    • scholarship funding covers all tuition costs
    Masters Degree in Healthcare Informatics
    • online program that must be completed in two years of full-time study 
    • scholarship funding covers 60% of tuition costs, plus a stipend and student health insurance
Deadlines

Spring 2013 - October 15, 2012

Applications are good for one year. If all supporting materials are not received within one year, a new application and a new fee payment will be required.

    Requirements
    Executive Leader Certificate

    The executive leadership certificate has the following requirements:

    • bachelors degree or equivalent in a clinical field
    • 2 years of previous management experience
    • completed application
    • letter of reference from employee's chief executive
    Health Information Management/Exchange Specialist Certificate

    The HIM/HIE specialist certificate has the following requirements:

    • bachelors degree or equivalent in a clinical field
    • completed application
    • letter of reference from employee's supervisor
    Health Information Technology Sub-Specialist Certificate

    The HIT sub-specialist certificate has the following requirements:

    • masters degree in business with a health administration  or IS focus
    • completed application
    • letter of reference from employee's supervisor
    Executive Leader Master's Degree

    The Executive Leader Masters Degree has the following requirements:

    • must be accepted into one of the master's degree programs (meet all criteria for program including transcripts, letters of recommendations, GPA, prerequisites, etc.)
    • bachelors degree or equivalent in a clinical field
    • only individuals accepted into the master's programs will be offered the scholarship application form if they can pursue full time study
