Summer Okimoto, DNP, CNM, joined the University Nurse Midwives in 2013. She has been practicing full-scope midwifery since 2010 for the University of North Texas Health Science Center, UNTHealth Nurse-Midwives, in Fort Worth, TX. Prior to becoming a certified nurse-midwife, she worked as a labor and delivery nurse at Baylor Regional Medical Center at Grapevine for nine years. During that time, she also volunteered at a pregnancy resource center and served overseas as a medical missionary. The experiences she had in providing care for women and their families nationally and internationally ignited a desire in her heart to strengthen her global commitment to women’s health by becoming a certified nurse-midwife.
In 2007, she attended Baylor University and graduated from the first BSN to Nurse-Midwifery/Doctor of Nursing Practice (NM/DNP) program in the United States. Summer is passionate about seeing women empowered to make educated decisions. She enjoys providing evidenced-based, compassionate and culturally sensitive care to women and their families. Summer currently serves as a peer-reviewer for the Journal of Midwifery and Women’s Health.
