Julia Martin, CNM, MPH, joined the University Nurse Midwives in 2013. Prior to becoming a nurse-midwife, Julia spent a decade working collaboratively for women and their families as a health counselor, researcher, policy developer, and programs manager. She received her master’s in public health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she focused on community-based participatory research methodology and adolescent sexual health education in the public school system.
Her professional interests include systems that promote normal physiologic birth in hospital settings, shared decision-making, and teaching the midwifery model of care. She currently serves on the American College of Nurse Midwives task force for promoting normal physiologic birth.
