The Denver VAMC is a premier 300-bed hospital within the VA system serving veterans and their families from Colorado and the surrounding region. In addition to the faculty and endoscopy nurses, the GI section has 2 Nurse Practitioners and 1 Physician Assistant on the staff. The endoscopy unit performs 4,800 procedures annually including upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, motility, EUS and ERCP. In addition to teaching medical students, residents and fellows, the division is active in clinical, basic and translational research including studies of colon cancer prevention, inflammatory bowel disease, hepatitis C, and cirrhosis outcomes.
Construction of a new $800 million hospital with a six room endoscopy unit at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora has begun and is expected to be completed in June 2014. The new hospital will be adjacent to University Hospital, Children’s Hospital, and the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
