  • “Telemental Health”, the use of videoconferencing and other technologies to improve access to mental health services in remote, rural communities.
  • Current Research Projects:
  • NIDA: Evidence-Based Practices (EBPs) and Substance Abuse Treatment for Native Americans (5/08 - 2/12, Principal Investigator): The specific aims of this project are as follows: 1) to describe the use of specific EBPs in substance abuse treatment programs serving American Indian and Alaska Native communities; 2) to describe the factors associated with the decision to implement EBPs in these programs; and 3) to identify methods for more effective dissemination of EBPs to substance abuse treatment programs serving American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
  • NIMH: Intervention Development for Traumatized American Indian Adolescents (9/06 - 6/10, Principal Investigator): Goals are to: 1) assess the relevance, feasibility, and sustainability of potential interventions for traumatized adolescents with comorbid substance use problems who are served by the a residential substance abuse treatment program for American Indian adolescents; 2) target the highest ranked interventions for subsequent development and pilot testing; and 3) describe and analyze this investigative process itself so that the methods that emerge can be used for similar intervention development efforts in American Indian and non-Indian communities.
