Katie Paine
Major: Math
Internship: DSST Stapleton High School and Fifth Block at North Middle School (Aurora)
"It was apparent that coming into summer school that one specific student was behind. Every day we worked on problems and I could see growth in his math. By the end of summer school, he took the final and his score improved greatly. This made me feel extremely happy because I personally witnessed his growth and can see the confidence he now has in math."

Melissa Romero
Major: Math
Internship: DSST Stapleton Middle School and Fifth Block at North Middle School (Aurora)
"The last day at DSST was a day of celebration of all the hard work that the students put in during summer school. It was an opportunity to hear about the high's and low's each student experienced over the three weeks, as well as a day to have the kids build up school community via participating in a mini field day. Not only that, the advisory that I worked with sang a summer school version of ‘Summer Nights’ from Grease that landed them third place in the cheer competition during the summer school closing ceremony."

Todd Santee
Major: Civil Engineering
Internship Site: Math Pioneers and DSST Stapleton High School
"I recommend this internship program to college students because of the diverse experience I gained. I observed different methods of classroom teaching, and I was challenged to work in environments with students of different ages, skill levels, and levels of enthusiasm. I have learned much about the advantages and disadvantages of both relaxed classroom environments and rigorous ones. During my internship, I practiced the skills of communication, patience, and learning to follow others-- skills which will continue to help me throughout my education, my career, and my entire life."

Lexus Ujano- De Motta

Major: Psychology/ Pre-Physical Therapy Track
Internship: Pre-Collegiate Development Program at CU Denver’s 5-week Summer Session
"The career fields of physical therapy and clinical psychology are the reason why I am in college today, and both require teaching. I wanted a true taste of what teaching was really like. I have always wondered how it would be like to teach science at a secondary level, and from this internship I was able to experience it."
