A total of 39 credit hours in the major
Students majoring in English must present a total of 39 credit hours in English literature, film and/or creative writing (excluding ENGL 1010, 1020, and 2030, which satisfy core requirements of the BA). A minimum of 27 of those credit hours must be earned in upper-division courses.
None of the required 39 credit hours may be taken on a pass/fail basis. Only courses completed with a grade of C (2.0) or above may be counted toward the major.
Transfer Credit Limitations
At least 15 upper division hours of the student's work in English must be taken from English faculty on the Downtown Denver campus.
Deadline to Declare a Major
Undergraduates wishing to major in English must declare a major and option by the time they have completed 60 semester hours. Students planning to major in English or English Writing must consult with an advisor as soon as possible.
Double English/English Writing Majors
Students interested in a double major must choose one option in the English major (literature, creative writing or film studies) as well as the English Writing major, and are required to complete 21 different courses (63 hours).
