Laura G. Sanchez (MA Class of 2013)

After graduating with her MA in Communication, Laura took a position as an Academic Learning Specialist at the Learning Resources Center at CU Denver, where she helps our students learn to thrive.

Laura’s time in our Department of Communication helped her refine her interest in helping English Language Learners to successfully navigate higher education. One of her most memorable moments occurred in her Communication and Critical Theory seminar when she gave a final presentation of research on the Dream Act through the lens of human rights. The ability to take her passion for helping promote educational inclusion and connect it to communication research and theory made her feel like she was making a difference in the classroom and beyond.

Although initially attracted to CU Denver because of its convenient location, Laura quickly found her place in the Department of Communication. It “felt right for me, and it allowed me the flexibility to combine my other interests in education, diversity, and women’s studies into my assignments and research,” she says. “I appreciated the fact that the program always seemed to be progressing, growing, and looking for ways to enhance the experience of their graduate students.”
