Originally from Arkansas, Jared spent ten years working in the
television news industry after receiving his BA in Journalism from the
University of Arkansas in 2003. From 2004 until 2010, he worked for a
television station in Albuquerque, New Mexico. There, he covered major news
events across New Mexico, from natural disasters to the beautiful Balloon
Fiesta. He covered politics as well, and interviewed all major presidential
candidates in both 2004 and 2008.
During his time in our program, Jared wrote and presented conference
papers about topics related to political communication, difference and
diversity in higher education, and Chinese narratives. Jared taught Business
and Professional Speaking, Presentational Speaking, and Argumentation for CU
Denver while enrolled in our program.
But it was Jared’s experience in the Narratives of the New China
travel study class that was most transformative. Following completion of his MA
from CU Denver, Jared moved to China to teach communication classes for the
International College Beijing. As an instructor in Beijing, he built a media
lab for his media production students. In 2016, Jared earned a position directing the media lab and media services at Virginia Tech.
