Biology Minor

​ General Requirements

  • All courses in the minor must be taken for a letter grade; pass/fail grades will not count.
  • Students must earn a "C-" (1.7) or higher in all courses used to satisfy minor requirements
  • 9 upper division credit hours (3000-4000+) must be taken in residence from UCD Biology faculty.

Required Biology Courses 20-23 credits

  • General Biology I with lab (BIOL 2051-3 and BIOL 2071-1)
  • General Biology II with lab (BIOL 2061-3 and BIOL 2081-1)
  • Principles of Ecology (BIOL 3411-3) or Fundamentals of Applied Ecology (BIOL 3412-3)
  • General Cell Biology (BIOL 3611-3)
  • General Genetics (BIOL 3832-4)
  • One upper division biology lab course. Choose one of the following courses:        
    Human Physiology (BIOL 3225-4)
    Plant Science (BIOL 4335-4)
    Human Anatomy (BIOL 3244-5)
    Flora of Colorado (BIOL 4345-4)
    Ecology Laboratory (BIOL 3413-2)
    Mammalogy (BIOL 4640-4)
    Cell Biology Laboratory (BIOL 3612-2)
    Advanced Human Anatomy (BIOL 4644-2)
    General Microbiology (BIOL 3654-5)
    Field Studies (BIOL 4910-3)
    Molecular Biology Laboratory (BIOL 4125-3)

Required Ancillary Courses 9 credits

  • General Chemistry I and II with labs (CHEM 2031-3 and 2038-1;
    CHEM 2061-3 and 2068-2).

  • Minors with transfer credits in biology from other institutions should consult a biology advisor to determine course equivalency and proper placement. To check transfer equivaliencies click here.
  • Biology minors with Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, or CLEP credits should consult a biology advisor for proper placement; students declared pre-health should also consult a Health Careers advisor.
