Guidelines for Historical Projects

The historical project has a strong thesis (argument).
Good historical projects have a sharply focused, limited topic.
Good historical projects are based on primary sources.
Tell (or write) your historical project in the same spirit that you would tell (or write) a good story.
Get to the point quickly.
Establish a good title for your project.
Build your project step by step on evidence.
Document your sources.
Historical projects are presented dispassionately.
A historical project should include original thoughts of the author; it should not be a rehash of the thoughts of others.
Always consider your audience.
An honest project takes contrary evidence into account.
Let your first and last parts of your project mirror each other.
