The University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus respects individual privacy, intellectual property, student information and most import Protected Health Information (PHI). We have implemented Cisco’s Registered Envelope Services (CRES) secure e-mail solution to help protect against inadvertent discloser of secure information. The CRES system is designed to be easy to use for both our employees and our e-messaging partners. This page will help you understand our secure e-messaging initiatives.
As part of the University of Colorado Denver's Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance initiatives, an email encryption system is available to university employees that allows secure communication via email with outside parties including patients, subjects research associates, partners, vendors, and other healthcare professionals.
Email communications containing protected health information with individuals outside our affiliate network must be secured. Our affiliate network includes University Hospital (UCH), University Physicians (UPI), The Children's Hospital (TCH), Denver Health and National Jewish Hospital (NJH). Email communication to patients and/or subjects that includes PHI must also be secured even if the patient/subjects has indicated that it is acceptable to email in an insecure manner. The university secure email system is a HIPAA compliant method for handling these communications.
