All international studies majors must demonstrate a proficiency in a language other than English. This may be fulfilled with the fourth semester of a foreign language course sequence. Students have the option of testing out of this requirement. More information >>
Some important rules to remember:
The major is interdisciplinary and students must take classes in at least three different disciplines (Anthropology, Economics, Geography, History, International Commerce-Business School, Modern Languages, Political Science or Religious Studies). Students must diversify: No more than eighteen hours in any one discipline will be accepted towards the major.
Majors must complete at least half (24 hours) of the credit hours applied to their degree at the University of Colorado Denver to receive a degree from this institution.
A student must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better in the major courses to graduate. To receive course credit towards the major a student must earn at least a "C-."
The International Studies major also provides opportunities to use internships, independent study and study abroad credit for the major. Please refer to the bars on this page for more information.
Students with an outstanding academic record should also look in to the possibility of applying for honors. This requires some planning so be sure to get in touch with the program advisor before your final year.
