David Elison

David Elison was raised in Billings, MT and attending the University of Montana where he received his bachelor’s degree in cellular biology. He moved to Colorado with his now fiancé in 2011 to begin medical school and now hopes to enter internal medicine and specialize in possible infectious diseases or GI. His hobbies include anything outdoors (especially hiking, fishing, and camping), playing cards, watching sports or movies, and taking care of his pet rabbit, Carl.

I graduated Brandeis University in 2008 with a Health: science, society, and policy degree. During college, I ran cross-country and indoor and outdoor track and traveled abroad to Southwest China for a semester. Afterwards, I spent a year doing QI emergency medicine research at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and spent another year working for AmeriCorps’ Healthcorps. I am about to finish my Master in Public Health as part of the dual MD/MPH degree offered at CU and I am looking forward to resume fourth year of med school in June. In addition to my MPH coursework I have been involved in numerous project: a national QI patient safety research project; a QI evaluation of Nepalese women with prior uterine prolapse surgery, which involved traveling to Nepal over the winter; the design of a longitudinal research project and summer curriculum in Nepal for Global Health Track students; and a QI research project for our Admissions’ Office. In my free time, I continue to run and train for road races, hike and camp, and cook “Top Chef” quality dinners. I’ve decided to seek out an Internal Medicine residency at an academic program to pursue a career as a Hospitalist and to continue my QI research work in the realm of patient safety.

I call Cortez, CO home. I attended THE University of Colorado-Boulder as an undergrad and studied biochemistry. I expect the Buffs’ football team to win 6 games this year.  During medical school, I have been a member of the Rural Track, spent 10 weeks between 1st and 2nd year travelling through Southern Africa, and helped to coordinate Stout Street Clinic. I am planning to specialize in anesthesiology. My interests outside of medical school include running faster and further than I did the day before, doing things with the Frisbee that would have had medieval clergymen burned at the stake, skiing untracked powder on bluebird days, scoring golazos on the soccer pitch, and trying my best to get lost in faraway lands. I’m proud to be a member of the Crestone wolfpack because, “We rock!”

A little about me: I like birds, gardening, sailing, and most other minimally strenuous outdoor activities. I played skip on a curling team (in high school) and won two bonspiels, Why ACP? - Ilove advising and supporting students as they navigate the complex waters of medical education. Watching people grow at the pace of medical education is like a great spectator sport and with ACP I get to be on the sidelines, coaching during the excitement

A little about me: I was born and raised in Colorado.  While I'm not the most "outdoorsy" individual, I do enjoy going on scenic hikes.  I have a love for the arts, including musical theater and the symphony.  In regards to medicine, I enjoy teaching, mentoring, and advising students and residents, and helping develop the next generation of leaders and innovators in Academic Medicine.
