Training and Education:


Serapio M. Baca joined the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SSPPS) on January 1, 2017.  Dr. Baca earned his BA in Psychology from The Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO. He completed his PhD in the Neurosciences at the University of California, San Diego where he examined the role of inhibitory circuits in shaping behavior. He completed postdoctoral research at the University of California, Los Angeles where he looked at inhibitory circuits involved in the neural control of breathing. Before arriving here, Dr. Baca was an Assistant Researcher in the Goldberg Migraine Program at UCLA where he studied hyperexcitability brain circuits involved in headache and migraine.
   

Research Interest:

  
Presently, Dr. Baca continues his migraine research and is working with Dr. Huntsman on projects studying Fragile X. For both of these projects, Dr. Baca employs electrophysiological and optical methods in both anesthetized and awake, behaving animals. Dr. Baca holds secondary research appointments in Neurology both on the UC Denver campus and at UCLA.
