Geriatric Expertise: The Future of Nursing is Here.

For years, the media warned us about the aging baby boomer generation. Now it’s time to take action. Nationally, 25 million adults are over 65 years of age. In Colorado, the pace is even more intense. Who are these seniors? Some are active and thriving. Increasingly, more will cross the 100-year threshold. Most of those over 65 have significant health issues—80 percent have at least one chronic disease, and more than half have two or more. The number of advanced practice nurses prepared to care for this diverse group is woefully inadequate—fewer than three percent nationally. That’s why it’s smart to consider adding to your education and career potential by earning an advanced practice adult-gerontology degree.
