Bio: Michele is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine, serving as the Education Specialist for Predoctoral Education. Michele holds a Ph.D. in Biological and Biomedical Sciences from Emory University, a B.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics from Georgia State University, and a B.S. in Engineering Sciences from Aurora University. Michele completed her postdoctoral work at Emory University in cell nutrient biology while receiving additional training as a nutrition educator. After leaving Emory University, Michele served as an Assistant Professor at Georgia State University (GSU), where she taught undergraduate and graduate nutrition courses and conducted her research in tailored web-based weight intervention programs.
In addition to her responsibilities at GSU, she also served as a Health Scientist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity in Atlanta, GA. Her work at the CDC included "translational" research writing, which focused on evaluating the most current research in the area of overweight/obesity and chronic disease and summarizing the findings in written materials targeted for health professionals and the lay public.
In 2007, Michele moved to Colorado where she held a position as Visiting Assistant Professor of Nutrition at Metropolitan State College of Denver. Most recently, Michele served as Research Director for America On the Move (AOM) at the University of Colorado Denver, Center for Human Nutrition (CHN). Her work with AOM and James O. Hill, PhD at the CHN entailed new program development and research looking at a tailored "small changes" approach to achieving and maintaining healthy lifestyles.
Michele also serves as the 2009-2010 Chair of the Weight Management Dietetic Practice Group, a 4,700 member subgroup of the American Dietetic Association specializing in weight management.
In her spare time, Michele enjoys hiking, biking, photography, cooking, and spending time with friends and family!
