The Department of Pediatrics hosts several lectures, conferences, and events each year.
During the academic year the Department hosts Pediatric Grand Rounds, which take place on Friday afternoons from 12:30-1:30 p.m., in Mt. Oxford Auditorium, located in the Second Floor Conference and Education Center at Children’s Hospital Colorado.
Our signature events include the Jules Amer Lectureship, the Abby Stoddard Lectureship, the St. Geme Lectureship, the Frankenburg-Camp Lectureship, the Arnold Silverman Lectureship, the Conger Lectureship, the State of the Department, Career Teaching Scholars, Resident Research Day, and the Professor’s Challenge. Jules Amer Lectureship

Speaker: Judith Shaw, MD
The Jules Amer Lectureship focuses on community advocacy and global health. It is held on the first Friday in September and is sponsored by the Jules Amer Endowed Chair in Community Pediatrics and the Department of Pediatrics, University of Colorado School of Medicine.

St. Geme Lectureship

Speaker: Robert Califf, MD
The annual lectureship, which began in 1987, honors Joseph W. St. Geme, Jr., MD, former dean of the University of Colorado’s School of Medicine, who was a national leader in the areas of research, education, and patient care.
The Medical Student Award is given at the Lectureship to a deserving fourth-year medical student who has demonstrated outstanding research with a mentor and who is interested in a career in academic pediatrics.
The guest speaker spends two days on campus meeting with faculty and culminating in the lectureship.

Abby Stoddard Lectureship

The Abby Stoddard Lectureship, which began in 1993, features case discussions and presentations in pediatric neurology. Recognized experts are incorporated in this annual, two-day lectureship.
State of the Department

Stephen Daniels, MD, PhD, gives the annual Pediatrician-in-Chief Update on the Department of Pediatrics. This event also includes the presentations of The Dalice Miller Hertzberg Award, The Barbara A. Quarantillo Award, and the Senior Instructors with Distinction awards.
William K. Frankenburg Lectureship and Visiting Professorship

The Frankenburg Lectureship and Visiting Professorship honors the pioneering leadership of Dr. William K. Frankenburg, who made developmental screening an integral part of pediatric practice throughout the world. Leading authorities in the field of developmental and behavioral pediatrics are invited to speak at Grand Rounds and spend two days working with students, fellows, faculty, and community providers. This annual conference is funded by the Frankenburg-Camp Endowed Fund that supports research, training, and advocacy for early identification and prevention of developmental and behavioral problems, with an emphasis on at-risk and vulnerable children.
Arnold Silverman Lectureship

The Arnold Silverman, MD, Lectureship in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition honors Dr. Silverman and his national and internal influence by bringing a nationally-renowned physician-education-researcher in the field of pediatric GI, hepatology and nutrition for a two-day visit to Children’s Hospital Colorado and the University of Colorado to interact with students, house staff, fellows, faculty and caregivers from the community.
Career Teaching Scholars Award

The Department of Pediatrics presents the Career Teaching Scholar Award during Grand Rounds to gifted teachers, both full-time faculty and clinical faculty, who have made outstanding contributions to pediatric education throughout their career.

Chancellor’s John J. Conger Lectureship and Visiting Professorship

Speaker: Tina Cheng
This prestigious lectureship is sponsored by the Departments of Pediatrics and Psychiatry. It honors Dr. Conger, who was a pioneer in development and clinical psychology, and a child psychologist who had an enormous impact on child policy in the United States. The guest speaker spends a two-day visit culminating in a lecture at Grand Rounds.

Resident Research Day

Resident Research Day celebrates the research accomplishments of our residents and their faculty mentors. Many of our residents participate in mentored-research projects, which are presented at Grand Rounds and displayed on poster boards at the Spring Poster Session. The featured speaker is an alum who has had a successful career in research.
