Each year the American Cancer Society (ACS) awards Institutional Research Grants (IRG) to a select group of outstanding institutions with NCI-designated cancer centers. The University of Colorado Cancer Center is honored to be one of the institutions to receive the award.
The ACS IRG supports pilot projects involving cancer research initiated by junior faculty. The ultimate goal of helping junior faculty is to produce preliminary data necessary to obtain competitive federal funding. University of Colorado Cancer Center members Jennifer Richer, PhD, professor of pathology at the CU School of Medicine and John Tentler, PhD, associate professor at CU School of Medicine submitted the competitive renewal application to the ACS this past April. Earlier this month they were thrilled to learn their application was awarded for $450,000, which provides pilot seed grants of $30,000 each to junior faculty members over the next three years.
