Dr. Yasufumi Kato is a board certified surgeon and graduate of Tokyo Medical University. He focuses on caring for cancer patients undergoing thoracic surgery.
In addition to lung cancer-related surgeries and prognostic bronchoscopies, he specializes in lung cancer, malignant pleural mesothelioma and mediastinal tumors. Dr. Kato’s clinical interests include the recurrence of lung cancer and surgical treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma.
He is committed to progressing the treatment of lung cancer relapse by advancing our medical knowledge through clinical and translational research. He currently concentrates on better understanding several cancer related proteins that include the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors (TKI's) , and Insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF1R).
Since moving to Colorado to work in the Biomarker Analysis Laboratory at the University of Colorado, Dr. Kato has become an avid Colorado sports fan of both the Broncos and Rockies.
