Dr. Silva is the Assistant Director of the Rural Track of the School of Medicine. He graduated from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. He completed Family Medicine Residency at the University of Colorado. He practiced full-scope family medicine in the San Luis Valley of Colorado for 5 years. Dr. Silva was a clinical preceptor for over 40 family medicine residents during their rural family medicine rotations. For the past 3 years he has practiced at Denver Health where he continues work as a preceptor for family medicine resident physicians and medical students from the CU SOM.
Medical Interests: Community health, rural health, medical education, office procedures.
Current research involves identification and evaluation of the factors that impact student/physician choice to enter and remain in rural medical practice.
Dr. Silva is a participant in the Teaching Scholars Program of the CUSOM Academy of Medical Educators. He is also a member of the Office of Admissions Interview subcommittee. Dr. Silva is the co-director of the Integrated Longitudinal Medicine Clerkship and is a faculty facilitator in the Problem Based Learning curriculum.
