David W. Price, MD, FAAFP is a board certified Family Physician who has been with the Colorado Permanente Medical Group (CPMG) since 1988 and with the Department of Family Medicine at UC Denver Health Sciences Center since 1993. He has a great job for a family physician, participating in clinical care, teaching, research, policy making, and health care administration. He has served as Regional Department Chief of Family Medicine for Kaiser Permanente Colorado and Medical Director of CU CARE, a joint pilot managed care demonstration project for uninsured patients between Kaiser Colorado and University Hospital Denver. Currently he is the Director of Medical Education and a clinical researcher with CPMG, and the Medical Director of the Kaiser Permanente National CME Program. Dr. Price is also the physician lead for Depression and Continuing Education for the Kaiser Permanente Care Management Institute in Oakland, California. Dr. Price received the Colorado Academy of Family Physicians 1991 Teacher of the Year award, and was named as one of 50 “Colorado Superheroes of Family Medicine” in 1998.
Teaching and research interests include adult learning; medical and interdisciplinary-based outcomes focused medical education; mental health in primary care; and quality improvement in medicine. I am also the Kaiser Permanente Colorado PI/ Colorado co-Investigator on the Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study.
Dr. Price has also been active in the Colorado (Past-President) and American Academies of Family Physicians (Alternate Delegate, Delegate, member, Scientific Program Committee, member and chair, committee on Resident and Student Affairs). Dr. Price served on the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) Board of Directors from 2003 – 2008, where he chaired the R&D and Examination (Maintenance of Certification) committees, and was ABFM Board Chair from 2007-2008. Member of Colorado Medical Society Committee on Professional Education and Accreditation since 1998.
