classified as either clinical (e.g., hospital, academic), in which permission
for autopsy is granted by the next of kin of the deceased, or forensic (e.g.,
medicolegal), in which a medical examiner, coroner, or justice of the peace has
jurisdiction and may order the autopsy to be performed. Autopsies are
considered a medical procedure and are performed by a licensed pathologist.
NO medicolegal / forensic autopsies are
performed at University of Colorado Hospital.
