T cell immunology, autoimmunity, type 1 diabetes.
Our research is focused on the mechanisms and regulation of pathogenesis
in the NOD mouse model of type 1 diabetes (T1D). We use cloned T cell
lines and TCR transgenic mice to study the disease process. Our goals
are to acquire better understanding of how CD4 T cells contribute to
pathogenesis in T1D, investigate the beta
cell autoantigens that activate autoreactive T cells, and develop new
strategies for inducton of tolerance and prevention of disease.
