Diversity at the School of Medicine

The School of Medicine has been pushing to increase the diversity of its student body. Through increased community outreach, pipeline programs and financial support from the public and the university, the results have been striking. Consider these three years:

  • 13 students in the Class of 2013 are part of an ethnic or racial group that is underrepresented in medicine.

  • 33 students in the Class of 2014 are part of an ethnic or racial group that is underrepresented in medicine.

  • 52 students in the class of 2015 are part of an ethnic or racial group that is underrepresented in medicine.

Those 52 include 17 Spanish/Hispanic/Latino/Latina; 13 Mexican/Mexican American/Chicano/Chicana; 9 Black or African American, 9 Asian Vietnamese and 4 American Indian or Alaska Native.

Half of those 52 received scholarship money from a fund created by CU President Bruce Benson.

The normal class size each year is 160 students.
