Interprofessional Education

The University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine participates in the campus-wide Interprofessional Education Program (IPE), which is designed to prepare health profession graduates to practice collaboratively while improving patient safety and health outcomes. In addition, the Dental School implemented The Frontier Center Project, a clinical aspect to IPE.

The Frontier Center Project

  •  The Frontier Center Project, funded by Delta Dental of Colorado Foundation, provides collaborative education and practice in oral health and preventive practice in primary care.

Please watch this video by Delta Dental of Colorado to learn more about the Frontier Center Project.

The Interprofessional Education Program on the Anschutz Medical Campus

  • Goal: To improve population health, quality of care, and reduce healthcare costs through creation of a patient-centered, collaborative, practice ready workforce with competencies in: quality and safety, values and ethics, and teamwork and collaboration within the context of systems and systems based practice.

  • The program consists of three components:

      • The Interprofessional Education and Development (IPED) Course focuses on team dynamics and communication which are shared across all AMC health schools and programs that begin the first day students come to campus and continues until graduation.

      • Clinical Transformations (CT) Simulations, which provides an opportunity for interprofessional students to work together in a simulated environment focused on teamwork and communication.

      • Clinical Integrations (CI), which allows students to practice interprofessional healthcare in clinical situations.
