J.P. Morgan Center for Commodities, Global Commodities Applied Research Digest (GCARD)

Dr. Rohan Christie-David, Dean of the University of Colorado Denver Business School and Professor of Finance, welcomes participants  to the J.P. Morgan Center for Commodities' (JPMCC's) International Commodities Symposium.

The J.P. Morgan Center for Commodities at the University of Colorado Denver Business School is the home of an innovative bi-annual e-publication, the Global Commodities Applied Research Digest (GCARD), generously sponsored by the CME Group Foundation. The purpose of the digest is to highlight for practitioners the key findings of applied research on topical commodity issues.

The GCARD covers topical issues in the agricultural, metals and mining, and energy markets as well as in commodity finance. The aim of the digest is to serve the J.P. Morgan Center’s applied research mission by informing commodity-industry practitioners on research that will either directly impact their businesses or will impact public policy in the near future. The selection of articles is based on how relevant articles are to the concerns of professionals engaged in the business of commodities.

Hilary Till, M.Sc. (Statistics), Solich Scholar, JPMCC, presenting on the Global Commodities Applied Research Digest to the JPMCC’s Research Council. Ms. Till is the Contributing Editor of the GCARD.

Until now, there has not been an accessible source of concise information about current research across commodity segments: the GCARD precisely fills this marketplace gap. An additional goal is to encourage dialog amongst stakeholders in the various commodity disciplines.

The J.P. Morgan Center for Commodities (JPMCC) is the first of its kind covering the broad range of commodities. The Center provides research insights, student educational programs, and professional education offerings in commodities markets, regulation, trading, risk management and policy.

Professor Brian Wright, University of California, Berkeley, presenting at the Research Council’s Agricultural panel. Professor Wright is a member of the JPMCC’s Research Council.

The launch of the GCARD meets JPMCC’s goal to be the focal point of a range of intellectual activities that can create and sustain an active and vibrant commodities community, and become the go-to place for commodities thought-leadership. The GCARD’s Contributing Editor is Hilary Till, M.Sc. (Statistics), Solich Scholar at the JPMCC and member of the JPMCC’s Research Council. Each issue of the GCARD draws from the JPMCC’s research insights and professional educational offerings for the benefit of commodity industry practitioners.

Dr. Thomas Brady, Chief Economist at the Newmont Mining Corporation, presenting at the JPMCC's International Commodities Symposium. Dr. Brady is a member of both the JPMCC's Research Council and the GCARD's Editorial Advisory Board.

The JPMCC has established an Editorial Advisory Board for the GCARD. This international advisory board consists of experts from across all commodity segments. The board is composed of academics, researchers, educators, policy advisors, and practitioners, all of whom have an interest in disseminating thoughtful research on commodities to a wider audience. Board members provide the Contributing Editor with recommendations on articles that would be of particular relevance to commodity-industry participants as well as author articles in their particular areas of commodity expertise.
