Risk Management and Insurance Emphasis

The pervasive reality of risk affects all individuals and organizations. In the aftermath of recent financial and natural crises, the difference between success and failure increasingly depends on a firm’s ability to effectively manage risk to enhance firm value.

The Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) major provides a specific focus on insurance products and their use in mitigating risk in commercial and personal situations.  Graduates of this RMI program enjoy a 100% job placement rate (Spring 2015)

Careers in Risk Management and Insurance may include: 

  • Underwriter
  • Claims Adjuster
  • Sales Manager
  • Actuary Risk Manage
  •  Broker
  • Risk Consultant or Analyst.

Risk Management and Insurance Major

There are three parts to a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) major.

  • Employee Benefits and Workforce Risk Management
  • Global Risk Management
  • Property and Casualty Insurance
  • Corporate Risk Management

All RMI major students will complete an internship in the industry.​ Many of our industry partners offer internships to our students. Most of these are paid positions.

A Career Opportunity for Community College Graduates

Community college students who have satisfactorily completed the Associate of Arts with a Business major are guaranteed credit for all Guaranteed Transfer courses, reducing the number of necessary credits to be completed within the Business School.  Please see the listing of courses​  which typically need to be completed by community college students who have completed their Associates of Arts degree.
