The Bard Center Business Plan Competition is one of the foremost events for early stage companies in Colorado. The first Bard Center Business Plan Competition was held in 2002 and the event has been growing ever since. It seeks to promote the development of high-caliber business plans, recognize the most outstanding plans with more than $50,00 in cash and in-kind awards from area businesses, and encourage the creation of new businesses.
Year after year, competitors vie for the top prize of $10,000 in cash plus in-kind prizes. This year the competition culminates June 13, 2012 at the Four Seasons Hotel where four to eight finalists will present their proposals to a panel of judges and community members. Companies interested in participating must submit a registration form and participant waiver agreement by March 16 and submit the complete proposal by April 27.
A few of the past winners include:
- Viktorian Guitars, the makers of a high-tech, carbon fiber electric guitar (2011)
- CaraSolva, which provides cost effective point of care solutions for out of hospital care (2010)
- Olomomo Nut Co., a high-end, all natural and organic nut brand with kettle-roasted nuts, coated with original and exotic spices and flavor blends (2009)
- Tensegrity Prosthetics for it’s prosthetic foot (2006).
- MetroBoom, a full-service premier style salon exclusively for men (2004).
The Business Plan Competition is designed for early stage companies that have received no Angel or Venture funding and that have generated little or no revenue to date. The primary purpose of the competition is to provide these early stage ventures with an opportunity to test their ideas and receive meaningful feedback on their business plans. This year, the competition is open to any venture that includes a University of Colorado student or alum. Check out the competitor information page for complete details and competition requirements.
