Enrichment Program

Center for Diabetes Translational Research

As we embarked on the CAIANDTR activities, a clear need exists for promoting scientific exchange among ourselves and the greater research community—both at the University of Colorado Denver (UCD) and nationally.  Our Research Base brings very different skills and experiences to the table.  Forums where we can learn from one another here at UCD are critical.  Too, we wish to bring others into CAIANDTR, be these diabetes-related researchers whose work is ready for translational research (T2) consideration, translational researchers whose work is applicable to diabetes prevention and management, or junior faculty in the process of acquiring their first independent funding.  Further, we seek to structure national conversations about AI/AN diabetes translational research.

We decided it would be ideal to structure events whereby CAIANDTR investigators, other researchers, and service providers for American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) populations can interact on a regular basis.

We seek to do this in at least 2 ways:
  1. CAIANDTR-sponsored Speaker Series, and
  2. to seek funding for a national AI/AN diabetes research conference.

Speaker Series
To date, we have sponsored one CAIANDTR-specific speaker and co-sponsored 3 others with the Center for Research Implementation Science and Prevention (CRISP).

In September 2012, Yvette Roubideaux, Director of the Indian Health Service presented “The Special Diabetes Program for Indians:   The Future of Preventing Diabetes and its Complications among Native People.”
