Robert Turner

Prior to completing a Ph.D. in Sociology, I played professional football during the mid and late 80s in United States Football League (USFL), the Canadian Football League (CFL), and briefly in the National Football League (NFL) as a defensive back and wide receiver. These experiences and my experiences as a college scholarship athlete have shaped both my interest in social science and health disparities as an object of investigation. My research primarily encompasses ethnographic methods along with mixed methods designs. These designs involve the collection, analysis, and integration of quantitative and qualitative data in a single or multiphase study. My research involves conducting multiple analysis of data from the Study of Retired NFL Players in order to offer a better understanding of male health seeking behavior associated with chronic stress, dementia-related cognitive decline, chronic pain, and brain injury.
